📢 Another HOPE contribution at the 16th EASN International Conference 2026

We are pleased to announce a second HOPE Horizon Europe project contribution at the 16th EASN International Conference, taking place on 27–30 October 2026 in Toulouse, France.

🎤 Adnan Muslić (Bauhaus Luftfahrt) will present:

“Fleet-Level Assessment of Multi-Fuel Aircraft in the European Flight Network”

This work, developed within WP1 and WP4, investigates the long-term operational potential of HOPE’s multi-fuel aircraft concept across the European air transport system.

✈️ As aviation moves towards climate neutrality, the transition to hydrogen-powered flight faces significant challenges related to infrastructure deployment, fleet renewal, fuel availability, and economics. The HOPE project addresses these uncertainties through a multi-fuel propulsion concept capable of operating with conventional fuels, Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF), and hydrogen, enabling a more flexible and resilient transition pathway.

📊 Using Bauhaus Luftfahrt’s Air Transport System (ATS) assessment framework, the study evaluates future fleet evolution scenarios up to 2070, considering:

  • Air traffic demand growth
  • Fleet retirement and renewal
  • Fuel costs and availability
  • Hydrogen infrastructure deployment
  • Policy-driven fuel mandates

🔎 Preliminary results indicate:

  • Up to 22% reduction in block energy consumption through the deployment of next-generation HOPE baseline aircraft technologies
  • Up to 17% reduction in block energy consumption with the HOPE multi-fuel aircraft relative to today’s reference aircraft
  • Strong sensitivity of future benefits to the pace of hydrogen infrastructure deployment

🤝 The work is a collaboration between Bauhaus Luftfahrt and Manchester Metropolitan University, combining expertise in aircraft design, fleet assessment, and sustainability analysis.

The study highlights the importance of system-level assessments to better understand how emerging propulsion technologies can support the transition towards sustainable and climate-neutral aviation.
